Reflection
After warning against a self-righteous spirit, the Apostle Paul takes us one step further. He reminds us that it is possible to condemn the very behavior we excuse or tolerate in our own lives. Sometimes our faults may not look exactly like someone else’s, yet they may reveal the same pride, selfishness, dishonesty, unforgiveness, or disobedience before God.
It is easy to expect more from others than we expect from ourselves. We may recognize attitudes and actions in someone else that we are slow to acknowledge in our own hearts. God calls us to live with integrity, allowing His Word to shape not only what we say but also how we live.
As we begin this week, let us ask ourselves: Are there attitudes or behaviors that I criticize in others while making excuses for them in my own life? Am I applying God’s Word equally to myself as I do to others? Is my life reflecting the same standards I encourage others to follow? As we honestly bring these questions before the Lord, He is faithful to transform us into the image of Christ.
Prayer
Merciful God, in the name of Jesus, thank You for Your patience and mercy toward us. Help us to live with integrity, applying Your Word to our own lives before expecting it of others. Reveal where we have excused what You have called us to surrender, and give us the humility and strength to obey You. May our lives reflect the truth we profess and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
