Music connects; that’s the beauty of it. No matter our age, culture, or background, a song can transport us to a moment, awaken a memory, or unite us with others in a shared rhythm of joy.
It’s true that our youth often dance the most, filling concert halls and music festivals with energy and motion. But those of us who are middle-aged – or a bit beyond – know that the power of music doesn’t fade with time. We, too, find joy in hearing the voices we grew up with or discovering new artists who capture something timeless.
Many of our “artistic elders” understand and respect the discipline it takes to give a strong performance—the rehearsals, the persistence, the emotional stamina required to sustain a life in music. Whether in church choirs, jazz clubs, or on world stages, they know music is both a calling and a craft.
I still remember sitting with my family every Sunday evening, waiting for The Ed Sullivan Show to come on. The excitement would build as we wondered who would appear – the Temptations, the Jackson 5, or maybe another group ready to make history. My brother, sister, and I danced with everything we had while our parents, smiling with pride, swayed to the same beat.
That was the magic: music didn’t just entertain us, it brought us together. It bridged generations, softened differences, and filled our home with laughter and motion.
Music connects. Let’s keep it alive not just in our hearts, but in our schools, where creativity and culture should never be cut from the curriculum. Because when we nurture music, we nurture connection; and that’s something every generation deserves. 🎶
