Reflection
Are we more concerned with how we appear before others than with who we are before God? Romans 2 reminds us that God’s judgment is always according to truth. Unlike people, God is never influenced by appearances, popularity, position, or reputation. He sees beyond what others observe and knows every thought, motive, and intention of the heart.
Sometimes we compare ourselves to others and conclude that we are doing well simply because we don’t act as badly as someone else. Our brother Paul reminds us that comparing ourselves with others is not the standard by which God judges. His standard is His own holiness and righteousness. While we may deceive ourselves or even others, nothing is hidden from God.
As we begin this week, let us ask ourselves: Am I measuring my life against the lives of others instead of against God’s Word? When God looks at my heart, does He see a sincere desire to honor Him above all else? Am I allowing His truth to shape my thoughts, attitudes, and actions each day? As we honestly answer these questions before the Lord, we can trust Him to guide us, correct us, and continue transforming us into the likeness of Jesus.
Prayer
Merciful God, in the name of Jesus, thank You for reminding us that Your judgment is always according to truth. Help us to care more about who we are before You than how we appear before others. Keep us from comparing ourselves with others, and teach us to measure our lives by the truth of Your Word. Shape our thoughts, attitudes, and actions so that they honor You and reflect the character of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
