Reflection
There is so much hatred being displayed in our world today that many people are feeling discouraged, frustrated, and even angry. The injustice, dishonesty, and disregard for what is right sometimes make us wonder whether doing what is right still matters. But deep down, we know the answer. Yes, it most certainly does matter!
God’s Word reminds us that we must not allow what we see happening around us to determine what is happening within us. In Psalm 37, King David encourages God’s people not to become troubled by those who appear to prosper while doing wrong. He reminds us that their success is temporary and that God has not lost sight of what is happening.
In verses 3 through 5, the King encourages us to “Trust in the LORD, and do good … Delight thyself also in the LORD … Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
David doesn’t just tell us what not to do. He also tells us what we should do. We are to trust God, continue doing good, commit our ways to Him, and learn to rest in His faithfulness. “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him.” (verse 7)
With the midterm election approaching, many Americans are considering the direction of our country, the decisions of those in leadership, and the responsibility we have as citizens.
For Christians, these considerations should also lead us to prayerful reflection. Our decisions should not be driven simply by anger, fear, political loyalty, or frustration with what we see happening around us. Instead, we should seek God’s wisdom, examine the issues carefully, and consider how our choices will help heal our land, remembering the words of 2 Chronicles 7:14:
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
What a timely reminder! While our choices in this election may influence the direction of our nation, we must remember that true spiritual healing comes from God, not from political decisions. He calls His people to humility, prayer, and repentance.
We can be concerned about what is happening in our communities and nation without allowing those concerns to consume us. We can disagree without becoming hateful. We can speak against wrongdoing without allowing bitterness to take root in our hearts.
And whatever decisions we make concerning this election, we must remember that our hope is not ultimately found in any political leader, political party, or election outcome. Our hope is in the Lord.
Prayer
Merciful God, my Father, there are so many things I do not understand and so many circumstances I cannot change. Help me to trust You even when what I see troubles my heart.
Give me wisdom to make decisions that honor You, courage to stand for what is right, and grace to treat others with love and respect, even when we disagree.
Guard my heart against anger, bitterness, and discouragement. Help me to continue doing good and to remember that You are still in control.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Have a MARVELOUS MONDAY and a MIRACULOUS GOD-FILLED week!
KEEP THE FAITH!
